pretend you aren't looking for anything

Today I am getting packed and ready to head down to Grosse Ile to spend Thanksgiving. When the day began I had a few priorities. My most important task today is packing. I was not worried about this. I don’t plan on taking much, so I thought it would be easy. The only problem was my cellphone.

I hadn’t used my cellphone for a few days, and it needed locating. The battery life is short, and I get no reception here, so first plan of attack was tidying up. I was hoping this would intuitively lead me to the elusive device. This worked well for improving tidiness, but it didn’t produce good search results. Soon I gave up and decided to take care of a couple of other activities before I worried about the phone.

After a quick shower, I figured that yoga would be a good use of time. I budgeted 15 minutes for this (You can tell I’m a serious yogi). About 10 minutes in, I decided to try a bit of meditating. I am no pro at meditating. I barely know what I am doing, but that doesn’t stop me. About a minute in, my cat started biting me on the leg. I could tell that this was the universe testing my impeccable meditation skills. I resisted this treachery, and I continued to meditate for what I would guess was about 3 minutes.

When I was done, I looked up to find the cat sitting on the couch rather peacefully. I figured she was meditating too. At that moment I thought, “I bet that phone is in the couch.” Showing the same respect that she had shown me, I removed the cat unceremoniously and began digging through the couch cushions. In little time, found both a silver dollar and my cellphone.

This makes me smile.
